This is not the best of Tony Bennett by any stretch of the imagination, but it is an interesting record from the collector's point of view, because it contains a set of recordings that are not otherwise available. In 1972, after 22 years with Columbia Records, Bennett left for MGM/Verve, where he stayed for only a year or so. This album presents some of the recordings he made then, recordings that were out of print on LP for a long time. It's not great stuff, unless your idea of great Tony Bennett includes hearing him sing George Harrison's "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)," and no one looking for a Bennett hits collection should touch it. But fans curious about this small, previously hard-to-find area of Bennett's catalog will want to seek it out. ~ William Ruhlmann
