Skip Hinnant is clearly enjoying himself as he reads the rhyming text of this cumulative story. Jaunty music, frequent sound effects, and an occasional giggle accompany Hinnant’s measured pace, giving time for the reader to appreciate the hilarious illustrations in the short book, which is included. The listener can easily join in with the repetitive text as the character swallows increasingly impossible beach discoveries—a shell, a fish, a seagull, sand, and finally a wave—to produce a funny surprise ending. This set is part of a series based on the folk song "I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly," popularized by the great Pete Seeger. R.H.H. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine
