Overview

Guerber states in her preface that this 1895 study of the myths from Norway, Sweden, and other northern lands is aimed at students. Here are the stories from the religion of England’s heathen ancestors and the myths which took an important role in the history of British customs, art, and literature. Guerber focuses on the grim humor and dark tragic threads weaved throughout the narratives, starting with “The Beginning of All Things” and ending with a comparison of Greek and Northern mythology—covering all the giants, dwarves, and gods in between.
