This brief Verve sampler is all over the map, but what it doesn't contain is any really deep jazz tracks, sticking mostly to pop-jazz vocal material, which is fine, but don't expect to get taken too deeply into the well. Highlights include Jimmy Smith's "Strut" (with a vocal from Taj Mahal), Diana Krall's smoothed out and uptown version of "Crazy" and Aaron Neville's sedate take on "Cry Me a River." ~ Steve Leggett
