Intrigue, danger, suspicion, national complications, faith, hope and more take the reader on a fast paced journey through the life of an American held in a prison camp. This story made me think about headlines in the news. Interesting read. I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my personal honest opinion. No review was required. Amazing, Heart-rendering, Gripping, Believable, Frightening, Relevant, Timely and oh, so much more! Thanks to Alana Terry for digging deep, researching thoroughly, praying avidly and coming up with Christian fiction that touches the heart of each and every reader. I say 'fiction', but is it fiction? As one reads this heart-throbbing story of young Ian in isolation, working hard labour in North Korea's work camps and wasting away in a hospital ward with pneumonia, one wonders - fiction? or read life for so many? Grandma Lucy's faith tears at our heart strings and her love is abounding as the love of God strengthens her - her faith insurmountable and her example is one we want to follow as we think on the sadness of those being held in prisons, refugee camps, work camps and so many places of horror. Alana Terry, thanks for sharing your words of faith and conviction! Sandra
Difficult book to review. I read the advanced copy. I didn't particularly like the primary character through whose eyes the action is interpreted and around whom all the action happens. Having said that, the issues addressed are extremely critical to our current time period. The characters ring true and the issues involved are powerful. Not sure what to make of the main character. His attitude just seems very inappropriate at times and I found some of his character development too simplistic. Having said that, I enjoyed the story and all of its ramifications. A worthy read at a critical time. Ken Grant
Ian's story is truly amazing. When Ian ends up in North Korea he isn't sure whether he will ever see home again. When Hee-Man shows up Ian is glad that he has someone to talk to. The way Hee-Man tries to help Ian is truly remarkable. Grandma Lucy is truly a wonderful person. The way she prays for people is truly special. You will feel God working throughout this whole book. I had the honor to review this book for the author for a honest review. I would give this book a higher rating than a five star review if I could. You won't be able to stop reading this book.
