A very literal singalong album, Kidz Bop collects 18 remakes of contemporary hits that also feature a chorus of kids singing along with the hooks. Depending on the song, the effect is either fun or creepy; generally, punk-pop songs like the covers of blink-182's "All the Small Things," Sugar Ray's "Fly," and Smash Mouth's invincible "All Star" fare the best as singalong material for kids, as do nonsensical hits like LFO's "Summer Girls" and Barenaked Ladies' "One Week." However, it's more than a little unsettling to hear children singing along to the chorus of Britney Spears' "Oops! ... I Did It Again" ("I'm not that innocent") and it's just downright annoying on "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" and "That Don't Impress Me Much." Overall, Kidz Bop provides parents with a safe collection of pop music for their kids, but a similar collection that didn't feature children singing along would probably make for a more consistent listening experience -- for kids and parents alike. ~ Heather Phares
