Publishers Weekly

In Trollope’s lighthearted contemporary, a divorced 64-year-old grandmother discovers love again, but her family isn’t so thrilled. Rose Woodrowe is enjoying a pleasant if uneventful life, living in a mews house in London and working as a medical translator. Tyler Masson, a widower who knew Rose from a tennis camp where they met as teenagers, becomes reacquainted with her at a London play and proposes marriage four months later. Though Rose is in love with Tyler, she is very close to her adult children and concerned about how they will react to her wish to remarry. Laura, a physician, wants to see her mother happy but is wary of how quickly Tyler is moving. Nat and Emmy, Rose’s twins, share those concerns and dislike that someone is taking their mother’s attention away from them. The complexity of familial relationships breathes realism and intensity into this novel, especially when Tyler’s actress daughter, Mallory, meets Rose’s family and befriends Emmy. Trollope (City of Friends) creates a seamless story complete with flawed, believable characters whose relatable lives will appeal to readers of all ages.
