Barnes & Noble's Sunday Music series, described as "a lifestyle compilation series from Big Helium records" features 15 genre-leaping tracks that revel in the reflective nature and recuperative powers of the most gentle (for some) day of the week. Volume 1 relies heavily on stalwart, adult alternative rock workhorses like Joseph Arthur, Rufus Wainwright, Patty Griffin and Peter Gabriel to bring the calm, but it's peppered with enough obscure musical fruit from the likes of indie pop darlings Susanna & the Magical Orchestra ("Condition of the Heart"), She's Spanish, I'm American ("These Long Summer Days"), and colorful worldbeat acts such as Sidestepper ("Deja (Mary)") and Sara Tavares ("Balance"), that as a whole, the collection ebbs and flows in time with the kind of lazy Sunday we all wish we could procure. ~ James Christopher Monger
