About the Author

Matt Scharfglass is a New York-based multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and guitar transcriber. As an instrumentalist, he can frequently be seen playing around New York City doing anything from gospel and musical theatre to chamber music and grunge. Recent session credits include spots for VH1.

With hundreds of transcriptions under his belt, Matt is a frequent contributor to Guitar World; his work can also be found in album folios published worldwide by companies such as Music Sales, Warner Brothers, and Hal Leonard. Matt's other instructional books for Music Sales include Beginning Blues Bass, The Gig Bag Book of Practical Pentatonics, and Tuning Your Guitar.

Matt is also the leader, guitarist, and bassists of his own band, Mrs. Grundy, with two releases to its credit: Your Stinky Candy (1998), and Booger (2000), both on Screaming Yuppie Records. He likes to sneak up on his deaf cat and startle her in his spare time.
