Greg Heffley la está pasando mal. Su mamá cree que los videojuegos afectan su inteligencia y quiere que se olvide de ellos para explorar su “lado creativo”. Entonces Greg descubre la vieja cámara de video de sus padres. Ello le da una idea genial: filmar su propia película de terror… y, de paso, volverse rico y famoso.
